Million dollar picture

ARTISTIC STATEMENT

I believe in simplicity. I believe that everything is simple. Or at least it can be thought as being simple. And since our world is mainly made and ruled by thoughts I do believe that everything could be just as simple as it can be thought.

What would it for example take to stop people from hurting each other? If people were kind to each other then no one would ever get hurt. Isn't that simple?

Unfortunately things are not as simple as they could be. And that's mostly because we chose it that way. Apparently we don't know any better than making things complicated. In the end it's not even our fault. Life is just what it is. And most of the times it takes too much to change it.

The "Million dollar picture" is primarily an artistic project the aim of which is to challenge the impossibilities of our world to try to make art. Art is here understood as a specific goal which is based on a simple, straightforward and theoretically the most possible idea that on a practical level could exist as something absolutely impossible. The goal of this project is in trying to understand what does to be possible actually mean. Is it possible to feed all the starving of this world? There surely is enough food or money to achieve that. But is that actually going to happen? And if not wouldn't that mean that such a task is actually impossible?

In this way I also question the existence of art as an object - materialization of an idea. Because art might be after all just an illusion that so far we have failed to challenge. To put it simple: if I wasn't be able to sell 1 million postcards and thus make 1 million dollars I would have to conclude that in this case art was not possible or that at least it didn't happen.

THE IDEA

The idea is to turn an image into a postcard and then sell 1 million copies of it for $1.00 each. In this way I would get a "Million dollar picture".

How impossible does that sound? And how possible that actually is?

I am sure everyone would agree that this is indeed a very easy and simple way to earn 1 million dollars. I am also sure that it's hard to really think of a reason why this idea wouldn't work. Who couldn't afford to spend $1.00 on a postcard?

But of course the question is not who couldn't afford it but who would want to do that. In the end it's all about will. It's about doing it.

And how to convince people to spend $1.00 on a postcard? Well, I don't really want to convince anyone. I am simply curious to know if simple ideas like this can work in this world. If anyone wants to buy my postcard then it should do it simply because it's possible. This is the spirit of this idea - do it because it's possible.

After buying the postcard it will be send to you by regular post as a normal postcard with handwritten greetings.

It's just so impossibly simple! Or maybe simply impossible.
